New roads that have been constructed in accordance with the council's guidelines are normally adopted by way of an agreement between the developer and the council under section Section 21 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.

Under the New Roads and Street works Act 1991: s112 Local Authorities are obliged to keep a register of road adoptions and road works, which is available for public inspection at   Council Access Points
