General Information

It is the duty of the Environmental Health Section to protect the health, safety and welfare of people at work and also safeguard members of the public.  We have responsibility for enforcement in pemises such as:

• Shops
• Tyre and exhaust fitters
• Offices
• Builders merchants
• Golf courses
• Consumer services (including hairdressers, body piercers and launderettes
• Hotels and catering
• Caravan sites
• Residential care homes

Main Duties

The main duties of the Environmental Health Section in the enforcement of health and safety law include:

• Carrying out inspections of workplaces to ensure risks are being effectively controlled and managed to prevent accidents and ill-health.
• Investigating reports of accidents, dangerous occurrences and occupational diseases.
• Investigating complaints about working conditions or work practices from employees or members of the public.
• Providing guidance and advice on compliance with the law and making recommendations for good practice.
