The Visiting Team

If you apply for disabled banding reduction a member of our Visiting Team will arrange to visit your property and meet the disabled person. They will also look at and confirm the kind of alterations made to your home. The Visiting Officer’s report will be an important part in deciding if your application is successful

If you qualify for disabled banding reduction, the amount of Council Tax you pay will be reduced by one band. For example, if your property is placed in Valuation Band C in the Valuation List, we will send you a Council Tax bill equivalent to the amount payable if your property was in band B.  You should continue to pay your existing Council Tax bill while we assess whether you are entitled to disabled banding reduction.

A Successful Application

Once a successful application for disabled banding reduction has been dealt with, we will issue you with an amended Council Tax bill. It will show you the amount of your reduction award and the new amount of Council Tax you will pay. If you pay by direct debit, we will amend the amount of the instalment we deduct from your bank account.

Your disabled banding reduction will remain until your circumstances change - you do not need to re-apply each year. You should tell us immediately if there is a change in your circumstances which may affect your entitlement to it.  We will write to you each year to review your entitlement to disabled banding reduction.
