Council Tax Discounts

As well as the discounts available to people on a low income, some Carers are able to get 25% discount on their Council Tax.  In some situations, two Carers in one house can each claim 25%.

Respite Care

Caring can be very hard work and most carers welcome a break.  This is often arranged as part of the Support Package identified through Community Services Department.

Carers can also get regular short breaks through organisations like Crossroads who can arrange for a Care Attendant to take over your role for a short period to allow you to have a break.

Welfare Benefits

Carers and the person being cared for can often claim benefits to help them to cover extra costs associated with illness and disability.  The main benefit for Carers is Invalid Care Allowance, which is available to some Carers depending on their circumstances.
