Your Green Bin
Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCV’s) collect the waste on a fortnightly basis, in areas serviced by the Kerbside Recycling Scheme
link to Kerbside info and on a weekly basis in rural areas not served by the Kerbside Recycling Scheme. The RCV’s take their
load to the closest Recycling Centre, Waterford in Forres, Moycroft in Elgin and Gollochy in Buckie. Waste from all the recycling
centres is taken to Moycroft where is bailed and loaded onto trailers. These trailers take the waste to their final destination,
Dallachy Landfill site in Spey Bay.
Your Brown Bin (areas served by Kerbside Recycling Scheme)
RCV’s collect the contents of YOUR brown bin link to kerbside info on a fortnightly basis. The RCV’s then take the green waste
to the closest recycling centre. From the recycling centres the green waste is transported to Moycroft Recycling Centre Elgin
to be shredded. From Moycroft the green waste is transported to Keenans Recycling in Aberdeenshire to be composted. The compost
generated is used for land restoration and to cap our landfill site.
Your Blue box and paper bank
The contents of your blue box and your local paper bank gets collected by the council and again are taken to Moycroft Recycling
Centre. The paper and cardboard gets bailed and then is collected by lorries from Securecycle Scotland Ltd – a paper mill
in Fife. The paper and cardboard gets made into new paper based products.
Your Orange Box and glass banks
The glass content of your orange box and your local glass recycling bank gets collected by the council and again is taken
to Moycroft. It is taken to British Glass in Alloa and here it is made into new products.
Your Orange Box and can banks
The food and drink cans, aluminium and steel, from your orange and local can bank are taken again to Moycroft in Elgin. From
Moycroft they are transported to Buckie. A charity called Waste Watchers will then separate and bale the cans. The bales of
aluminium are transported to Novelis (This link opens in a new window) in Alloa and are made into new aluminium cans. The steel cans are transported to JR Adams
in Glasgow and are made into new steel products, including cans.
