Are there any exemptions or exceptions under the Act as there are in other pieces of legislation?

There are certain exemption and exceptions. Not every function involving personal data is subject to the full force of the Act. There are primary and miscellaneous exemptions, which range from almost total exemption from the requirements of the Act where none of the data protection principles need be followed, to a limited dispensation. This briefing note does not go into those exemptions in detail.
