Criminal Justice - Community Service Order - Frequently Asked Question(s) - FAQ(s)

Who gets a Community Service Order?

All those upon whom the Court is considering imposing a custodial sentence can be given a Community Service Order. A Community Service Order ensures that families are not split up and that those in employment do not lose their jobs. The Community Service Team has to accommodate and ensure that work is available for everyone no matter the offence, health, employment, gender or ethnicity of the offender.

Who is eligible to be helped by the CS Team?

Local community, charitable and voluntary groups, older people, people with a disability, single parents – as long as the group/person cannot afford to employ someone to do the work they are eligible for help from the CS Team.

Who can make referrals?

Anyone can make a referral for painting, gardening, removals etc.  However you can also approach your Social Worker, Care Worker, Health Professional etc. to do this on your behalf.

How can I make a referral for work?

If you have a task that you think the CS Team can undertake in the first instance contact the office on 01343 557200.

How much will it cost?

Community Service supplies the labour and equipment to carry out the task – however you may be required to supply relevant materials for the work to be undertaken.

Who will be undertaking the work?

Offenders will undertake the work. Those in work groups will be under the supervision of Task Supervisor and will have been risk assessed as suitable for the task to be undertaken. The work will also have been risk assessed in compliance with Health & Safety Regulations by the Senior Task Supervisor prior to work commencing.
