Our policy is:

• to replace older style off-peak heating systems with either Total Control or Gas fired systems to improve efficiency and reduce tenants fuel bills, and
• to replace coal fired systems over 10 years old with more efficient enclosed room-heaters.

The Council has very few systems that currently fail the Scottish Housing Quality Standard and will continue with the current policy until such time as the systems fall within the recommended replacement lifecycles laid out within the Scottish Housing Quality Standard.  The Council has recently installed heating systems incorporating renewable technologies such as air and ground source heat pumps.  These installations will be monitored over time to decide whether they can be offered on a larger scale in areas where mains gas is not available.
