The First Publicity Shot of Roy and Ronnie as the Corries. Two Corries

The first decision to be made was whether to find a replacement for Bill Smith, or to continue as a duo. The problem was that although Roy was a talented instrumentalist, Ronnie's role had been a singer and his guitar technique was weak. Nevertheless theyThe Corries Edinburgh Festival 1968. decided to carry on as they were. They cancelled all engagements for the next few months and Ronnie began an intensive period of guitar practice. Under a new name of the Corries they made their first appearance at the Royal Jubilee Arms, Cortachy, Angus. The On the Road.reception they received encouraged them enough to continue working as a duo.

Their reputation began to grow, as did their exposure on television, and the first series they did as a duo was innovative in its presentation of folk music. Instead of performing in front of an audience they were filmed in locations associated with the songs. People still remember the sequence as they marched through the Pass of Killiecrankie singing the song of the same name.
